Eugene "Gene" R. West Sr., 75, residing in Sandusky, passed away surrounded by his loved ones, Thursday afternoon, March 11, 2021 at Firelands Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Gene was born on January 10, 1946 in Hartford, CT to the late James M. and Rose D. (Richi) West.
Gene was a Veteran of the US Marines, Army Reserve and a National Guard recruiter. He was employed at IAC for 15 years. Gene was a member of the AMVETS Post 17 and the VFW Post 2529. He loved his 1999 Corvette, and enjoyed fishing and going to the races. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara (Jensen) West. He is also survived by his 3 sons, James "Jim" (Kim) West, Marc (Julie) West and Eugene R. West Jr; grandchildren, Logan, Lane and Caden West; great-granddaughter, Luna Mae West; close friend, Marshall "Skip" Reed; his loving fur babies and several other friends and relatives.
In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bobby Jensen.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave, Sandusky.
