Howard J. Smith

Howard J. Smith, 84, passed away Thursday morning March 18, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.

Howard was born July 7, 1936 at home in rural Norwalk to the late Clemens and Blandina (Schnurr) Smith.

He was a 1954 graduate of Monroeville High School. He married the love of his life, Sharon Renwand, on April 12, 1958 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sandusky, and shared 62 years of marriage that portrayed the most beautiful, unconditional love, that set a perfect example for all.

He was a member of the K of C Chapter #1117, NRA, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville, a former member of St. Sebastian Church, Bismark, and was the Vice President of the Bismark Senior and Community Center. Howard was a lifelong farmer and loved hunting, fishing, cutting wood, walking in the woods, and carpentry. He loved spending time with his family, playing softball and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; five daughters, Cindy Smith, Monroeville, Lynn (Don) Miller, Attica, Debbie (Bob) Bumb, Bellevue, Mary (Rodger) Norcross, Fredericktown, and Elaine (Clark) Geiger, Willard; 22 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren with another on the way; five brothers, Alfred (Dorothy) Smith, Thomas Smith, Lawrence (Lisa) Smith, William (Suzanne) Smith, and Stephen (Debbie) Smith; five sisters, Frances Smith, Bernadette (Jo) Caramat, Marcella (Don) Schaffer, Theresa Schaffer, and Marianne Brock, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Smith; brother in laws, Charles Schaffer and Steve Renwand; sister in laws, Carolyn and Theresa Smith; grandson, Thomas Tinnel; and niece, Tami DeMore.

Friends may call from 9:00 am until 10:30 am Monday, March 22, 2021 in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel St., Monroeville. Father Ron Schock will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Sebastian Cemetery, Bismark.
