Norman "Sam" J. Welser Sr., age 80, of Castalia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Saturday night, March 27, 2021, in his residence, following a great fight up until the end.
He was born November 6, 1940, in Castalia, and graduated from Margaretta High School in 1959.
He worked for Marks, Pick-n-Pay, Finest, and Tops retail stores, as the head stocker, retiring from Tops, he also was in the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 954. Sam loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Indians and he enjoyed playing the lottery.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was a great provider for them. Sam was a past member of the VFW post 2529, American Legion post 17, and was the past president of the Erie County Dartball league; Sam played for Petie's Bar, the VFW, and the Pump Lounge.
He is survived by his wife Judith (Bodi) Welser, whom he married in 1962; daughter Kristine Welser; son Norman Welser Jr.; grandson Shaun Marcil; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents Constantine "Connie" and Hazel (Wobser) Welser; sister Patricia Sanders.
Friends may call from 11 AM until time of services at 1 PM, Wednesday March 31, 2021, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Pastor Cathy Schibler will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
