John J. Vitaz Jr., 78, residing in Milan, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 31, 2021 at Continuing Health Care Solutions of Milan following a brief illness.
John was born on April 19, 1942 in Cleveland, OH to the late John J. and Helen Jean (Martin) Vitaz Sr.
John began his career as a journeyman at NASA in Sandusky. He then worked for General Motors in Elyria and Brookpark for 32 years as a machine repairman, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the The Maumee Valley Boat Club, the Firelands Coin Club and the Milan Boy Scouts, where he was a past Scoutmaster. John enjoyed coin collecting, radio controlled boats and airplanes, racing cars, fishing and spending time with his family and friends, especially attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
John is survived by his wife, Marianne (Schinness) Vitaz, whom he married on November 26, 1966. He is also survived by his two sons, Mike (Heather) Vitaz and Tom (Tammy) Vitaz both of Milan; nine grandchildren, Destinee, Chelsee, Tyler (Olivia), Tanner, Zachary, Hannah, Taylor, Olivia and Tannah; brother, Thomas (Trish) Vitaz and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his grandson, Trevor in 2005.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 3, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory Milan Chapel, 1 S. Main St., Milan. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Milan Cemetery, Milan.
