Sean Nolan Serna

Sean Nolan Serna, an Investment Advisor and resident of Sandusky, OH died unexpectedly on April 8, 2021 at the age of 51 while on vacation in Florida with his family.

Sean was born on January 28, 1970, in Toledo, OH to Moises Serna Jr. and the late Jean Nolan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cathleen (Myers) Serna of 21 years, and his beloved children, Lucy, Annie, Marisa, Brian, and Jessica; his father, Moises (Karen) Serna; brother, Desi (Dyan) Serna; sister, Adrianne Serna; stepbrothers, Nick Kerekes, Mike (Cindy) Kerekes, Joe (Kasey) Kerekes, and stepsister, Joanelle Kerekes. He also leaves behind his father in-law, James Myers; brother-in-law, Troy (Jennifer) Myers; sister-in-law, Mary Snyder and numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Nolan; mother-in-law, Darlene Myers, and brother-in-law, James Myers Jr.

He is the godson of Sonny Serna and Verna (Serna) Grocki. He graduated from Sylvania Southview High School in 1988. He is a veteran of the United States Navy where he served on the USS Essex during the Persian Gulf War as a Cryptologic Technician Operator. During his four years of service he earned a Commendation medal. After serving his country, Sean went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Toledo.

Sean and Cathleen were married in 2000 and moved to Sandusky where he began his career as an investment advisor at Stifel Inc. for nearly 21 years. He had a love for music and was an avid Rush fan. At a young age he had a passion for playing the drums. He took great pleasure in playing live music in his band, Mojo Groove. Sean was extremely proud of his family and taught them to be diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fans. He was honored to be the third generation to own the "Serna Family Farm" in Lyons, OH, where he spent countless weekends enjoying time with his wife and kids. He is also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Sean truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He made laughing a priority in his life. He formed many friendships throughout his life and had an uncanny ability to make people laugh through his sense of humor and witty sarcasm. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all those who knew him.

Friends may visit on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Monte Hoyles will officiate. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
