Linda Darlene (Harple) Riggle, age 79, passed away peacefully at the Meadows at Osborn Park, Huron, after a strongly fought battle with a lengthy illness.
She was born in Sandusky on August 2, 1941, and lived in Castalia, where she graduated from Margaretta High School in 1959.
Linda resided in Huron for the next 59 years. She was a talented and compassionate woman who motivated and advocated for Special Olympics and organizations for the handicapped population.
Becoming the first woman tool and die tradesman at New Departure made her family proud as she blazed the trail for others to follow. Many groups benefited from her gift of time through her volunteerism. Everyone that knew her could feel her passion for what she felt was important and she would never stop trying to accomplish whatever goal she had placed in front of herself. She would spend all day, outside in her gardens, eating tomatoes as she worked.
Her hobbies and pastimes were many, from collecting books and post cards to being a lifelong blood donor. One of her favorite things to do would be to bake Christmas cookies, starting at the beginning of December. She filled and stacked those tins full of cookies until gifting them to family and friends over the Holiday.
She could be seen almost daily walking uptown in Huron with her son. He will continue that tradition with her constant presence by his side. She will continue to live in us all.
She was the wonderful wife of Malcolm Riggle, loving mother of Vicki (Jerry) O'Hara and Mike Riggle, grammy yammy to Carly and Kelsey, sister to Karen (Harple) Remy and Robert Harple, and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Gladys (Guenther) Harple.
An intimate and private family memorial service to celebrate her full and amazing life will be held at a later date. Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, Castalia, is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Erie County Special Olympics.
