Daniel B. Hicks, 91, Huron, OH, died Sunday, August 8, 2021, in Admiral's Pointe, Huron.
He was born in Prestonsburg, KY on October 27, 1929 to the late Norman L. and Sadie (Shepherd) Hicks.
Daniel worked for 23 years at Superior Coach of Lima as a metal finisher. He retired in 1995 after working 13 years as a vocational educator at Delaware Joint Vocational School as a auto body instructor.
He was a member of the former Sandhill Community Church, Sandusky. Dan attended Prestonsburg High School, after high school he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and received the Bronze Star. He later received his GED and went on to attend the University of Toledo, The Ohio State University and Ohio Wesleyan University. He was co-founder and member of the McGuffey Conservation Club, life member of the Ada V.F.W., and life member of the Sandusky Amvets. He was a member of the ham radio Sandusky Radio Experimental League. Daniel was past school board member at Upper Scioto Valley School, during the consolidation. He served for many years as a timer for the high school and junior high basketball teams, and coached little league baseball for many years in McGuffey.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years Donna J. (Chalfin) Hicks; son, Terry (Phen) Joseph, Sandusky; daughter, Kathryn Sue (Paul) O'Malley, Sandusky; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Hicks, Wabash, IN; sisters, Mandy Brownback, Midwest City, OK, and Shirley Faye DeBoard, Wabash, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandchildren, twins, Ayden and Oliver Joseph; four brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, from 6-8 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. On Thursday, August 12, 2021, friends may call from 11 A.M. until time of funeral services at 12 P.M. in Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, 701 N. Front St., Alger, OH 45812. Burial will military honors will follow in Preston Cemetery, Alger, OH.
