Gerald Leon Wright Jr., 101, residing in Sandusky, passed away Tuesday morning, August 17, 2021 at Portland Place following a lengthy illness.
Gerald was born on October 20, 1919 in Sandusky, OH to the late Gerald Leon Sr. and Leona (Smith) Wright.
Gerald graduated from Sandusky High School in 1937. He was a Veteran of the US Navy and served in WWII. He retired from Farrell-Cheek Steel in 1972 after over 30 years of service. Gerald was a member Zion Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong member of the Sandusky Sailing Club and built his first sailboat when he was 12. Gerald was also a member of the American Legion Post 83, Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons, Erie County Conservation League and participated in Rifle Matches at Camp Perry. He enjoyed traveling in his RV cross country with his wife, Betty. He loved photography and developing photos in his dark room.
Gerald is survived by his daughter, Judith K. Wright of Sandusky; son, Joel (Catherine) Wright of Sandusky; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by his wife, Elma "Betty" Elizabeth (Waugh) Wright on August 9, 2010.
Private family services will be held. Burial will take place in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
