Ruth A. (Samstag) Ruthsatz

Ruth A. (Samstag) Ruthsatz, 87, residing in Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on her birthday Wednesday morning, Sept. 1, 2021 at Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.

Ruth was born on Sept. 1, 1934 in Sandusky to the late Clarence Sr. and Louise (Mainzer) Samstag.

Ruth graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1952. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. An avid Cleveland Indians fan who rarely missed watching a game, she enjoyed time spent in her card club with her high school friends and was involved in area bowling and golf leagues, including the Panther Ladies Golf League on Monday mornings at Mills Creek. Ruth also enjoyed shopping, putting together puzzles, having meals with family and friends, Samstag family reunions, visiting casinos, following her children's and grandchildren's athletic and other activities, and spending time with friends during winters in Florida. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was very giving, supporting many organizations, especially those associated with helping children.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul H. Ruthsatz, whom she married on Nov. 29, 1952. She also is survived by her children, Vicki (Jerry) Gill of Huron, and their children, Bryan Gill, Brandon (Kelly) Gill and Brittan (Jillian) Gill, of Sandusky; Sandi (Ken) Domanski of Sandusky, and their children, Kendra (Dave) Novotny of Lakewood and Jenna (Jason) DeMastes of Lexington, Kentucky; Kathi Ruthsatz of Sandusky; Steve (Kerry) Ruthsatz of Sandusky, and their son, Brett Whitfield of Kennesaw, Georgia; and Scott (Jessica) Ruthsatz of Edgewood, Kentucky, and their children, Nick of Cincinnati, Aiden, Madelyn, Marina, Nolan, Aaron and Colleen Ruthsatz of Edgewood; great-grandchildren, Brock, Brayden, Austin, Adrianna and Brylie Gill, Maple and Ivy Novotny, and Faye and Edison DeMastes; sisters, Linda (Jay) Kelley of Hilo, Hawaii, Judy Hoyt of Delaware and Mary (Steve) Pisarsky of Sandusky; brothers, Clarence "Babe" (Sara) Samstag Jr. of Huron, Mike Samstag of Sandusky and Joe (Colet) Samstag of Winterville, North Carolina, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her son, Jeff Michael Ruthsatz in July 1971; sister, Janet Sadler and brothers, Richard and Tom Samstag.

Friends may call on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Fr. Philip Feltman will officiate. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
