Larry D. Clifton

Larry D. Clifton, 70, of Vickery peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on October 26, 2021 following a lengthy illness.

Larry was born in Sandusky, Ohio to Melvin "Cliff" Clifton and Jessie (Cordle) Clifton. He attended Lakeworth High School in Lakeworth, Florida. In his younger years, Larry was a motorcycle mechanic at Sandusky Honda and Roeders. For 18 years he worked at Union Chain as a machinist. Until his retirement in 2014, Larry worked as a housing inspector for Erie Metro. Soon after his retirement Larry decided to go back to work part-time as a driver for Renaissance House. The most cherished moments Larry had was spending time with his family, whom he loved very much, and being called "Pa" by his granddaughters.

Anyone that knew Larry knew one of his greatest joys was always instigating and kidding around. Larry had many interests; he was an avid bow hunter and fisherman. He loved riding his motorcycle and strolling through Cedar Point with his wife. He also loved playing his guitar and attending Christian Concerts and Flat track races with his family. Larry was an Ohio State and Margaretta football fan.

On November 21, 1970 Larry married his soul mate, Mary S. Steele in Sandusky, Ohio. In 1978, Larry surrendered his heart over to the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. He devoted himself to studying the Bible, especially prophecy. As a born again Christian his heart's desire was that his entire family would come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Larry was deeply loved and will be missed by his wife of 50 years, Mary (Steele) Clifton of Vickery; daughter, Carol (Encil) Matheney of Vickery; son, Jeremy (Jourdan) Clifton of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; granddaughters, Hannah (Darrin) Barlow, affectionately known by him as "Sissy" and Grace Matheney both of Vickery; sisters, Linda Herrmann and Paula (Gary) Hoover both of Sandusky; brother, Jerry (Angela) Clifton, Sandusky and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Clifton; stepmom, Sandy (Forrest) Clifton; numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins, including his Uncle John Cordle whom he was especially close to.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 11:00 am at Sand Hill Free Will Baptist Church, 7703 W. Mason Rd, Sandusky. Burial will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Castalia. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Those wishing to contribute to Larry's memory may do so to the Clifton Family, c/o Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.
