Kathryn A.L. "Kay" Friedley, 98 of Sandusky and formerly of Castalia, died Friday afternoon, February 3, 2012 in the Lutheran Memorial Home following a ten year battle with Parkinson's disease.
She was born October 10, 1913 in Castalia to John & Catherine (Meinzer) Pfeil. Kay was a 1932 graduate of Margaretta High School, where she was on the Ladies Championship Basketball Team and was chosen All County Basketball Forward. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia. Kathryn was employed at the former Gail's Clothing Store, the Castalia Blue Hole, and was a 24 year poll worker with the Erie County Board of Elections. Her hobbies included ceramics, bowling, bingo, she loved animals and was a self taught organist.
She is survived by one daughter: Mary Ann (Pete) Luse of Tiffin, five granddaughters: Wendy (James) Dolan of New Jersey, Kristine (Perry) Lease of Findlay, Becky Evans of Elyria, Jenny Evans of North Ridgeville, and Brandy (Scott) Sylkatis of Lorain, two step granddaughters: Kristie (Kevin) Burovac and Jennifer (Todd) Goodykontz, both of North Carolina, five great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale P. Friedley on January 12, 1962, one daughter: Karen L. Tabak on December 6, 2011, her parents, one sister: Esther Pfeil, one brother: Harold Pfeil and one nephew: Rodger Pfeil.
Friends may call Monday, February 6, 2012 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday in the Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington Street, Castalia. The Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
