John "Jack" C. Hedberg, 84, of Sandusky passed away the evening of Sunday, November 14, 2021, in the Stein Hospice Care Center due to a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in September 2021.
He was born August 9, 1937, in Sandusky and a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
He was employed for 39 years with Sandusky Foundry and Machine as a Master Machinist.
During retirement he worked at Sawmill Creek Golf Course for 21 years.
Everyone that knew Jack knew his passion in life was golf. Up until his diagnosis he has been playing golf at least four times a week and cutting grass at least two times a week at Sawmill Creek Golf Course. His greatest achievements in golf have been 5 hole in ones with the most recent being last year at the age of 83 during the Chili Open. Also, at the age of 76 he shot a 29 for nine holes and at the age of 83 he shot 15 strokes under his age for a 68 for 18 holes. In the past, he had won the City Open Championship at Mills Creek Golf Course and the Club Championship at Sawmill Creek Golf Course.
Jack's golf friends and co-workers at Sawmill Creek from his past and present meant so much to him; for they were such a big part of his life, a part of his life that he truly loved.
He is survived by one son, Dan Hedberg; one daughter, Kim Piotrowski; three grandchildren, Taylor Hedberg, Mike Piotrowski, and Nicole Piotrowski; two great grandchildren, Ryker and Nyla; one brother, Chuck (Marilyn) Hedberg; his close friend for many years, Jim Damanti; and his other very good friends that he worked and played golf with at Sawmill Creek Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Susan (Maus) Hedberg, whom he loved and missed dearly after her passing on January 29, 2021; his parents, Roy and Margaret Hedberg; and one of his best friends, Paul Guerra on October 1, 2021.
Private family services will be held in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
