Bernice "Beanie" F. (Sloan) Smith, 92, residing in Sandusky, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Parkvue Health Care Center following a long struggle with Alzheimer Disease.
Beanie was born on April 6, 1929 in Detroit, MI to the late Harold and Catherine (Brayman) Sloan.
Beanie graduated from Sandusky High School in 1947. Over the years, Beanie was a secretary at both Owen Disbrow Real Estate and St. Mary's High School. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, as well as a volunteer at Venice Heights Elementary School, working with many children over the years. She was affectionately known as "Grandma Beanie".
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Robert) May and Pamela (Marc) Scarpelli; son, Jim (Linda) Smith; 6 grandchildren, Bob May, Brian May, Rick (Shannon Gerraughty) May, Annee Smith, Jamie (Steve) Evans and Jennifer (Jason) Rosa; great-grandsons, Brooks May, Luke Evans and Aiden Rosa; great-granddaughters, Megan Evans and Emery Rosa and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Beanie is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Smith in 2003; son, Ronald Smith; sister, Grace Bauman and brothers, Harold and Ralph Sloan.
Friends may call on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 9:00 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Phil Feltman will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
