Mrs. Jeanette M. (Grathwol) Hartung, 94, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2102, after a brief illness.
She was born on March 29, 1917, in Sandusky, Ohio, and was a 1935 graduate of Sandusky High School. Jeanette was also a graduate of the former Sandusky Business College. She was employed as an office secretary with several local companies, retiring in 1970 from the Union Chain Manufacturing Company. During World War II, she worked for the United States Employment Services in San Jose, California.
Jeanette was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Sandusky, Ohio. She was also an Associate Member of the Police and Fire Retirees of Ohio and the Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters Retirees Organization.
She is survived by two sons, Robert D. (Nancy) Hartung Jr. of Port Clinton, Ohio, and John (Roberta) Hartung of Huron, Ohio; two grandchildren, Aaron (Abigail) Hartung of Powell, Ohio, and Heidi (Wes) Burkett of Wake Forest, North Carolina; one great grandchild, Caitlyn Burkett; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many wonderful neighbors and friends.
Mrs. Hartung was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert D. Hartung Sr. in April, 1995; her parents John E. and Susan K. (Wolf) Grathwol; two sisters, Millicent T. Kolb and Celeste L. Bogert; and one brother, John D. Grathwol.
Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, February 17, 2012. The Rev. Paul Atkinson will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
