Virginia Marie (Schaefer) Herhold, 97, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Admiral's Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Virginia was born on June 5, 1924 in Sandusky, OH to the late Ralph and Irene (Geisler) Schaefer.
Virginia graduated from Sandusky High School. She was previously employed at Periodical Publishers, JCPenney and her husband's company, the Ralph Schaefer Company. Virginia was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she was a volunteer for the bereavement committee. She also volunteered for 50 years in the gift shop at the former Providence Hospital and Firelands Regional Medical Center. Virginia also served on the Erie Shores Mental Health Board. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge and having coffee and lunch with her friends.
Virginia is survived by her daughters, Susan (Bill) Guhl of Weston, OH and Lisa Herhold of Sandusky; sons, John (Sharon) Herhold of Avon Lake, OH, James (Sue Davies) Herhold of Atlantic Beach, FL, Jeffrey (Linda Maxwell) Herhold of Las Vegas, NV and Steven (Lisa) Herhold of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Brian Herhold, Mark Herhold, Eric Leonard, Benjamin Herhold, Scott Herhold, Jason Herhold, Jenny Tierney, Jon Guhl, Annie Herhold and Sarah Herhold; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn DesJardins of East Lansing, MI and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Herhold and son, Joseph Herhold, whom both passed in 2013.
Friends may call on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Zach Brown will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
