Edgar "Ed" Douglas Castle, age 73, of Castalia, Ohio, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 4, 2021 after a long illness, with his family by his side.
Ed was born on August 10, 1948 in Paintsville, Kentucky, daughter of Edgar A. and Anna Nova (Salyer) Castle.
Ed was a proud Army Veteran stationed in Fort Rutger, Alabama from 1968-1970 and retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 30 years of service. He was known for his love of life and outgoing personality. In his younger years, he played competitive softball in Sandusky, Ohio. Throughout his life, he loved fishing for perch and walleye on Lake Erie, hunting, and gardening. Ed was also an avid supporter of the Margaretta Lady Bears basketball team. Ed loved spending time at his cabin in Southern Ohio hunting with his friends and nephew, Kyle Calhoun. He also enjoyed having breakfast with his friends in Castalia each week. He loved spending time with his three grandchildren and teaching them about nature. He was an active member of the Concord Church in Paintsville, Kentucky and Little Bethlehem church in Bellevue, Ohio.
Ed is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Greene Castle, daughters Dr. Amy (Dave) Elleman of Thompson's Station, Tennessee and Dr. Jennifer (William) Parrish of Greeley, Colorado, and three grandchildren Samantha Elleman, Alyssa Elleman, and Shannon Parrish. He is also survived by his sister Darnell King (Steven Collins) and three brothers, Jerry (Mary) Castle, James "Jim" (Kay) Castle, and Roger (Sharon) Castle.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his five sisters, Rosetta, Jeanett, Doris, Shirley, and Alice, and two brothers, Paul and Gary.
Friends may call from 4 PM until time of services at 7PM Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, Ohio 44824.
There will be a second service at the Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville, Kentucky (TBD), and he will be buried in the Castle Family Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Ed's name may be made to the Victory Temple Soup Kitchen, 1613 Hayes Ave, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.

The family would like to thank all of Ed's friends and family who supported him over the past year, with a special thanks to Randy Ladd for giving him the shirt off his back, and Stephanie Foley (niece) for her help with Ed's end of life care.
