Rita Cecelia (Ackerman) Muehling, 94, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday morning, December 2, 2021 at Stein Hospice Care Center.
Rita was born on November 3, 1927 in Sandusky, OH to the late Frank and Leona (Reckinger) Ackerman.
Rita retired from the former Ohio Bell after 31 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Orioles Club, AMVETS and the American Legion. Rita enjoyed playing golf and bowling. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Wyatt) Simons of Sandusky; son, Michael (Lori) Muehling of St. Charles, IL; grandchildren, Matthew (Megan) Stookey of Sandusky; Lori (Zachary) Terzo of Saint Augustine, FL, Robyn (Matt) Slater of St. Charles, IL, Lauren (Britt) Masterson of Canton, GA, Joel Muehling and Kelly Muehling both of Elgin, IL; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Dale "Yank" Muehling on July 15, 2002; sisters, Mary Marshall and Rose Brady and her brothers, Frank and Edward Ackerman.
Rita's family would like to give a special thank you to her caregiver, Mark Weikle; the staff and doctors at Stein Hospice Care Center, and The Commons of Providence Assisted Living and Memory Care Unit.
Friends may call on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Father Monte Hoyles will officiate. Private family burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
