Robert J. Reer, 83, residing in Milan, passed away Sunday morning, December 12, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.
Robert was born on March 4/5, 1938 in Norwalk, OH to the late Raymond and Helen (Durnwald) Reer.
Robert graduated from Milan High School in 1956. He was the owner and operator of Bob's Auto Wrecking. He started the business with his wife, Darlene, in 1961 and retired in the early 2000's. Robert was the recipient of the Milan Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year in 2012. He was a member of a number of organizations, including the NRA. Robert served as a Milan Township Trustee for 32 years, working on several committees throughout. He had a passion for guns, and teaching others shooting and safety. He enjoyed putting together puzzles; working on renovation projects; traveling and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Darlene (Northcutt) Reer, who he married on November 22, 1958. He is also survived by his daughters, Sherry (Gary) MacKay, Kimberly Reer, Marsha (Brian) Hurst, Patty (Paul) Cummings, Amy Litteral and Julie (Charlie) Weyer; son, Mark (Vicky) Reer; son-in-law, Paul Swanagin; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeannette Colvin, Marilyn Dickman, Paula Stager, Nancy LaCross and Kathy Apling and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his daughter, Bobbie Sue Swanagin; brother, David Reer; son-in-law, Randy Litteral and brother-like friend, Robert "Big Bob" Schenk.
Friends may call on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 9:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Pastor Peter Dodd will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
