Phyllis Martin Nuber, 72, Sandusky, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022, after a brief illness.
Born Phyllis Elaine Martin on July 9, 1949, to Lt. Col. Robert Samuel Martin and Kathreen Hock Martin on an army base in Nurnberg, Germany, she attended Yoyogi Elementary School in Sendai, Japan, and later graduated from High School in Swathmore, PA in 1967. From there she attended the College of Wooster and received a bachelor's in Psychology in 1971. While at college she met her late husband, Kenneth Nuber. They married on December 30,1972, in Phoenixville, PA.
Phyllis worked in various roles at the Erie County Department of Children Services including serving as agency director, and later, director of child placement. In retirement her life of service continued, working as a substitute teacher for the Sandusky and Margaretta Local School Districts and serving on the board of the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio. Additionally, she was the immediate past president of the Ohio Star Quilters Guild, a volunteer for Care and Share Food Bank and the Ohio Veterans Home, and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Venice where she sang in the choir and volunteered frequently. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, singing, and playing the piano.
She is survived by her children Kathreen (Matthew) Nuber McGinnis and James Henry Nuber, brother Gary (Patricia Green) Martin, sister Loren (Greg) Conrod, grandson Jack Henry McGinnis, and nephew Samuel (Dr. Adrienne Roos) Jaworski.
She was preceded in death by parents Robert Samuel Martin and Kathreen Hock Martin, husband Kenneth Henry Nuber, in-laws Henry Ernest Nuber and Lela Ruth Nuber, and nephews Travis Martin and Jacob Jaworski.
Private services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sandusky, and burial will be in Venice Cemetery. Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, Castalia, is in charge of the arrangements.
