Robert H. Schneider died January 4, 2022 at the age of 94. He was a former resident of Sandusky, Ohio. Prior to his death he moved to West Lafayette, Indiana in order to be near family after the death of his wife.
He married Joanne Meckstroth on August 17, 1951. They were married for 64 years. She preceded him in death in 2015.
He was a 1945 graduate of Sandusky High School. In 1948 he graduated from Bowling Green State University with a BS in Education, where he was a founding member of the Sigma-Chi Fraternity. In 1955 he graduated from The Ohio State University with a MS in Education.
He began his career in education in 1948. He served the Attica and Seneca East Schools for 30 years, 22 of which he served as Superintendent. He also served as Assistant Superintendent of the Edison Local Schools in Jefferson County, Ohio for 14 years.
After retiring, Bob and Joanne moved back to Sandusky. He was a member of Erie County Retired Teachers, where he served as President. He was a member of Senior Men's Club, where he served as Treasurer for 15 years. He served the Sandusky community in multiple volunteer positions including Care & Share, Meals on Wheels, Library Home Delivery, and the Merry-Go-Round Museum.
He was a long-time member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees.
He is survived by four (4) children, ten (10) grandchildren, and eight (8) great-grandchildren. His children include Robert M. Schneider (Susan) living in Edinburgh, Scotland; Sally Lowrey (Chuck) living in Lafayette, Indiana; Anne Belsito living in Overland Park, Kansas; and Thomas F. Schneider (Betty) living in Centreville, Virginia. His grandchildren include Patrick Lowrey, Michael Lowrey, Jennifer Warner, Barbara Belsito, Katherine Watson, Dr. James Schneider, Elizabeth Schneider, Michael Schneider, Thomas Schneider, and Sarah Schneider. His great-grandchildren include Jeremy and Brady Lowrey; Brooks and Madison Jo Lowrey; Jack, Julie, and Luke Warner; and Elliot Watson.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2022, until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson Street, Sandusky. Pastors Diane Bell and Doug Winner will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky immediately following the ceremony. Due to the on-going pandemic, the family requests masks to be worn by all attendees.
