Betty J. "Cookie" Melton 89, Sandusky, passed away Thursday morning January 13, 2022, at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
She was born September 26, 1932, in Vickery, OH, to the late George A. and Eva (Barber) Cummings.
Betty was a wonderful mother and grandmother, Betty's nickname was "Cookie", and this was fitting for the thousands of cookies she decorated every Christmas season and if you happen to visit during this time of year, she would put you to work. Betty overcome many hardships but always put her family first. Betty never took for granted an opportunity to write a letter, make a phone call, or give someone her life story and she loved to brag about every single family member to anyone who would listen.
Betty loved to sew, cook and write children stories Betty made amazing, sweet tea, cakes, cookie and homemade bread. Betty loved to play her organ and sing and dance to karaoke. Betty had a sense of humor that would make most people blush. Betty's favorite times was when family and friends would come to visit, each visit had a special meaning to her. Betty was very proud of her family and friends and wants all to know that if you knew her she loved you and is proud of you.
Betty leaves behind her 8 children, Cynthia R. Persinger, Sandusky, Sandra L. Melton, Mansfield, OH, Susan K. (Will) Melton-Butts, Sandusky, Teresa M. (Dave) Melton Street, Fremont, OH, Carroll Lee (Shannon) Melton "JR", Sandusky, Sebrina (Judd) Lamp, Mansfield, OH, Tamica Melton, Mansfield, OH, Misty Sue Melton, Mansfield, OH, twenty seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death her husband, Carroll Lee Melton Sr.; brother, Robert; son-in-law, John Persinger; grandchildren, Laura, Zachary, Amy Marie, Tracy Lynn, and Alysa; and many others who have gone before her.
Friends may call on Friday, January 21, 2022, from 10 A.M. until time of memorial services at 11 A.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Rev. Jerald Fenske will officiate.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks, or to the American Cancer Society.
