Charles P. "Chuck" Hedberg

Charles P. "Chuck" Hedberg, 85, serenely passed on to the final phase of his journey on Saturday, January 16, 2022. He was surrounded by his family at Stein Hospice, Sandusky.

Chuck was born March 11, 1936, and spent his entire life in the Sandusky area, graduating from Sandusky High School in 1955.

In 1957, Chuck married Sharon (Dahm) at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Chuck and Sharon had three children, whom survive him: Michael A. (Michelle) Hedberg, Michele A. Hedberg, and Tonya S. (Tracy) Shilling. Sharon preceded Chuck in death on January 13, 1978.

Chuck was one of those extraordinary people that found love, not once, but twice, in his lifetime. After meeting at Parents without Partners, he married Marilyn (Konzen) on November 10, 1978, at Resurrection Lutheran Church. At that time, Chuck became a father to three additional children, whom also survive him: Shelley (Adam Boyd) Conley, Jeffrey (Andre) Konzen, and Kimberly (Dan) Steele. Chuck embraced this commitment wholeheartedly, never wavering in his love or effort in blending two families. He proudly erected a street lamp in his yard, with a plaque that announced "The Hedberg-Konzen Bunch".

Chuck worked for over 42 years at Sandusky International (formerly Sandusky Foundry and Machine). He was foreman of the machine shop and instrumental in the execution of the gun drill. He enthusiastically retired in 1997.
Chuck indulged in a multitude of pleasures over the years, including golfing, boating, and camping. He and Marilyn were snow birds for several years, enjoying their winters in N. Ft. Myers, Florida.

Chuck was meticulous in everything he did. Whether building a chimney, pouring concrete, painting, or fixing any number of things, it had to be perfect. Later in retirement, he loved making birdhouses and macramé lawn chairs, each one done to perfection.

Chuck's favorite past-time throughout his life was "putzing around". He loved to just "putz around" in the garage, house or yard, and could always find things to do. When asked, "What ya doing, Chuck?", his response would inevitably be, "just putzing around".

Chuck will forever be remembered and endeared to his family and loved ones for his sense of humor, joking, and horse-play. His unconditional love and kindness will never be forgotten, and his absence will be felt by each of us for the rest of our lives.

In addition to his first wife, Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Roy (1989), and Margaret Hedberg (2004), brother, Jack Hedberg, on November 14, 2021.

In addition to his children, he is survived by his loving wife of over 43 years, Marilyn S. Hedberg; ten grandsons: Tony (Nicole) Hedberg, Cory Hedberg, Joseph (Ester) Hedberg, Jayson (Ashley) Hedberg, Jordan Strieter, Ryan Conley, Dylan Conley, Jaret Conley, Joshua (Brianna) McCarthy, Jacob Williams. One granddaughter: Autumn (Seth Graves) Konzen. Chuck is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Private family services are being held Wednesday at New Life Church in Sandusky. Pastor John Adams will officiate. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hedberg family, c/o Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870.
