Charles Leroy "Charlie" Barnes, 76, of Sandusky, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born on October 30, 1945 in Morgantown, WV to the late Gilbert Barnes and Edith (Smith) Hevner.
He worked for the Ford Motor Company, Lorain Plant, for 30 years. He was the lead singer for two bands: Midnight Riders and Memphis Sounds. He loved to take care of his "Queeny," music, fishing, and spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy (Long) Barnes, whom he married on March 20, 1965; daughters, Tracy Kellem and Rebecca (Jeff) Singler; sister, Nancy "Queeny" King; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sadie) Singler, Jr., Thachary Singler, and Ashely (Ben) Sutter; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Andrew, Joanna, and Allen; and step-brother, Paul Hevner, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charlie Barnes; step-father, Paul Hevner, Sr.; brothers, Bud and Richard Barnes; son-in-law, Keith Kellem; in-laws, Belle and Harley Long; and niece, Jodi Ringholz.
Visitation will be from 11 A.M. on Saturday, January 29 until funeral services begin at 1 P.M. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Pastor Ken Hiser will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlie's name to UH Rainbow babies and Children's Hospital, Cleveland.
