Eugene "Gene" M. Swain, 92, Sandusky, died Sunday, January 23, 2022, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Sandusky on December 23, 1929, to the late Jim and Laura (Mauer) Swain.
He was employed as a brakeman for Norfolk & Western Railroad, Sandusky Coal Docks, Keys Golf Course, and Victory Honda..
Gene was a golden glove boxing champ when he was 19 years old, loved hanging out at the former Evenbreak Cigar Store, where he was an avid card and poker player. He was involved with the former I.A.B. Club, loved watching boxing, and his favorite breakfast spot was Jolly Donut
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Artino) Swain; sons, Craig and Michael, both of Sandusky; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michelle Painter; brothers, Billy, Don and Arthur; sisters, Mildred Sidoti, Loretta Jenkins, and Teresa.
The family would like to thank Firelands Regional Medical Center Covid Unit for the care and compassion given to the family during this difficult time.
Friends may call on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, from 12 P.M. Noon until time of memorial services at 1 P.M. in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
