Shirley Mae (Springer) Maldonado, 92, of Castalia, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 6, 2022.
She was born on February 8, 1929 in Conneaut, Ohio to Claude and Lucille (Likely) Springer.
Shirley attended Bellevue High School. She was a member of the Cedar Point Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She worked at the General Electric Plant, Philco, and New Departure before embarking on her passion: Art. She was the owner of Paint ‘n Place where she gave lessons and did commissioned work. She, along with her daughter, became the co-owner of The Adelon Beauty Salon since 1976.
She married John Maldonado on March 24, 1952. And they celebrated their family: Shirley is survived and will be greatly missed by her children, son-in-law, Bob Grimmer; son, John (Debra) Maldonado, Sr., daughters, Lori Gonzales, and Sandy (Tom) Kennedy, and son, Jim (Becky) Maldonado; grandchildren, Ron (Lisa) Grimmer, Don (Angie) Grimmer, Andria (Tim) Thomas, Kristina (Doug) Blackburn, Malina (Kelly) Maldonado, Nicole (Mason) Yaksh, John (Julia) Maldonado, Jr., Joe Maldonado, Nina (Shaun) Ortiz, Andy (Jamie) Kennedy, Courtney (Bob) Fitzgerald, Jim (Kristin) Maldonado, and Morgan Fannin; 31 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bonita Schatzinger, Vivian Martin, Carole Basil, Mike Springer, and Steve Springer; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Maldonado, in 2000; her parents; daughter, Cheryl Grimmer, in 2019; grandson, Joshua Maldonado, in 2021; siblings, Marguerite Jacobs, Claude Springer, Phyllis Springer, in childhood, Claudette Dean, and Johnny Springer, in infancy.
The family would like to thank Firelands Home Health, with special mention to nurse, Jodi, for their exceptional care of our mother. Thank you for the kind, compassionate end of life care by Stein Hospice, and nurse, Brandon.
Friends may call on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 4-7 PM at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the funeral home with Greg Seavers leading. The family kindly asks that masks be worn by adults.
