Stanley "Stan" R. Gilbert Sr., 73, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday evening, February 10, 2022 at Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Stanley was born on February 21, 1948 in Sandusky, OH to the late Harold "Cotton" and Lois (Maschari) Gilbert.
Stanley graduated from Sandusky High School in 1966. He retired from New Departure Hyatt after 30 years as a tool and die maker. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a proud member of AA for 29 years. How did he do it...one day at a time. In his spare time, he enjoyed weight training, golfing and his Corvette. He loved his family, adored his grandchildren, and gave of himself helping others.
Stanley is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 55 years, Susan (Ohlemacher) Gilbert. He is also survived by his daughter, Stacey (Chad) Chapman of Fuquay Varina, NC; son, Stanley (Kathy) Gilbert Jr. of Sandusky; grandchildren, Caleb and Joshua Chapman, Ashley Gilbert and Stanley Gilbert III; sisters, Candace Gilbert and Stephanie Gilbert both of Sandusky; brother, William (Donna) Borden of Huron and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Stanley is preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Edens; brothers, Dennis Gilbert and Joel Borden and special in-laws, Rich and Kay Ohlemacher.
At Stan's request private family services will be held at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, Sandusky. Father Phil Feltman will officiate. Entombment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
