Raymond C. Odenweller

On the morning of Tuesday, March 8, 2022, Raymond C. Odenweller, age 88, from Catawba Island, was called to his eternal home.

He was born June 21, 1933, in Toledo, and moved to Catawba Island at the age of six.

He graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1951 where he participated in the glee club and later in life continued his love of music singing in a barbershop quartet. Ray was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve as an M.P. in the Korean war though the war ended before being deployed.

After serving his country, he worked for Philco Corp. where he met the love of his life, Jenny Cheek, whom he married on January 13, 1968. Later working for Ford Motor Company, he retired in 1993, after 30 years of employment.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing with his buddies, watching high school sports, traveling and music; though nothing compared to the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Virginia (Cheek) Odenweller; daughter Cindy (Derick) Bailey; grandchildren Aubree, Tate, Kale, and Lawson Bailey; sister in-law Ruth Cheek; brothers in-law Ron (Dot) Cheek and Joe (Carolyn) Cheek; and numerous nieces, nephews and many family members.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Ruth (Donovan) Odenweller Sr.

Friends may call from 4-7 PM Friday, March 11, 2022, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 10 AM in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 414 Madison St., Port Clinton. Father Jonathon Wight will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.

Due to Ray's love of sports and the value of education, memorials may be made to Margaretta Athletics or Margaretta Robotics Program.
