John William Theisen

John William Theisen, age 79, of Sandusky passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022, with Stein Hospice in Firelands Hospital, Sandusky.

John was born July 6, 1942, to Donald Edward Theisen and Irene Ellen Fisher Theisen in Norwalk, Ohio.

John went to St. Paul Catholic School for ten years and spent two years at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. He joined the Air Force and became a Russian linguist through Syracuse University. John also obtained an associates degree at Kent State University.

In his younger years John worked for Roth Brothers Construction in Norwalk. He later took on a position with The Glimcher Corporation where he traveled to numerous states as Project Manager, building super malls, until he retired.

His hobbies included fishing, playing cards, woodworking, and amateur radio where he was very proficient at Morse Code, being able to send and receive more than 60 words per minute. With this skill he was able to contact at least one person in every country in the world. This task took him more than 50 years to complete. John also enjoyed spending time at Hollywood and various casinos.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years Karen Sias Theisen, Sandusky, three sons: John (Becky) in Castalia, OH, Donald (Denise) in Lorain, OH, and William (Anita) in Moline, IL. Grandchildren include: Heather, Claire, DJ, Owen, William Jr, Wyatt, Weslee, and Walker.
John is also survived by his siblings: Sister Rosellyn, Toledo, Donna Bowers, Waldorf, MD, James (Alice) Theisen, Graytown, OH and Peggy (Clarence) Thomas, Clarksfield, OH.

John was preceded in death by his parents and in 2021 by his sister Marilyn Houghtlen. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Burial and a celebration of John's life will be held at a later time.
