Richard "Ric" Walton

Richard "Ric" Walton, 71, passed away peacefully in his home early Tuesday morning following a four-and-a-half-year battle with lung cancer.

Born January 11, 1951, to Richard and Nadine Walton, he grew up in Swissvale Pennsylvania.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard at both the Marblehead and Selfridg stations from 1976 -1980. Shortly after leaving the service, he started his career as a truck driver working with several trucking companies and retiring from Ploger Transportation in 2017.

Ric was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan who rarely missed a game and loved to spend his down time fishing on Lake Erie.

Ric was hopeful and optimistic, somehow keeping his great sense of humor, laughing with family and friends even toward the end. He will be very much missed by all of those that knew him.

He is survived by his siblings, Lorraine and Lou Ann Walton of Swissvale Pennsylvania. While he was married to Kathy (Parry) Walton they had four children, Melissa (John "Woody") Woodruff of Monroeville Ohio, Rick Walton of Atlantic Beach Florida, Jessica (Josh) Kovac, and Kristina (Jay Petersen) Walton both of Norwalk Ohio; his beloved grandchildren, Teigen, Zeth, and Keeley Woodruff, Brody and Ashley Kovac, and Jayson, Nathan and Justin Peterson.

Ric was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Ric's life will be held for family and friends at Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville Saturday May 28, 2022, between 2:00 - 5:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to one of the following: the Cleveland Clinic North Coast Cancer Center of Sandusky or the Northeast Ohio VA Medical Center of Sandusky/Parma.
