Peter J. DeNoewer, 78, of Bay View, passed away in his home while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 29, 2022 after a lifelong battle with polio.
He was born on February 29, 1944 in Sandusky to the late George and Helen (Tyrell) DeNoewer.
He retired from Goodwill Industries after 28 years of service as the maintenance supervisor. Peter was the first handicapped person in Ohio to obtain a Class C drivers license. He served on the Erie County Board of Easter Seals for over 25 years, holding offices of Vice- and President.
Peter loved to fish, go to the races, Cedar Point, and to Margaretta sporting events. He loved spending time with his family the most. When Peter's grandchildren were still young, you could spot them with their grandpa planting and maintaining flowers at the waterfront in Bay View.
Peter is survived by his daughter, Betty Jo (Gregory) Cook, of Bay View; grandchildren, Karalena (Tyler) Missig and Jonathon (Courtney) Cook; great-grandchildren, Dominic Cook, Tripp Missig, Morgan Cook, and Brooklynn Cook; and sisters, Georgianna DeNoewer and Penny (Ben) Brummette.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sibling James DeNoewer and Patsy Jennings, and nephew, Skip DeNoewer.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 1-2 P.M. on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. A memorial service will begin at 2 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peter's name to Stein Hospice or to the Bay View Fire Department.
