Bert G. Hokes, age 78, of Norwalk, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 04, 2012 at his residence.
He was born November 3, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Frank and Luella (Snell) Hokes. He graduated from Grand Valley High School in Orwell, OH and served in the US Army from 1956 until 1958. He moved to Sandusky and was a sewing machine salesman. In 1960 he moved to Norwalk and owned the Singer Sewing Center for 31 years. He then worked at Norwalk Furniture and retired in 1995. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cards and camping. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Erasmus) Hokes, to whom he married on September 8, 1956; sons, Bart Hokes of Chardon, Bret (Tammie) Hokes of Chardon and Brad (Lucy) Hokes of Norwalk; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son in infancy, Boyd Hokes.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Eric Mueller, associate pastor at St. Paul Catholic Church, will officiate. Private interment will be held at a later date. A reception for family and friends will follow at St. Paul's gathering space.
