Robert L. Trowbridge, age 89, World War II veteran, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012 in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky.

He was born in Plain City, Ohio on January 18, 1923 to the late Hazel and James Trowbridge. He attended Dublin High School and left to join the Ohio National Guard in 1939 and in 1942 he was shipped to the Pacific Theater with The 37th division of the Army signal corps. After serving his country, on February 24, 1946 he married Gertrude Harper of Kitts Hill, Ohio.

He was a 63 year member of the IBEW, Local 683 and worked actively as an electrician for many years.
Bob was an avid sportsman and especially loved to hunt and fish. He was the host of the WMNI radio program "The Sportsman" and in this capacity, he traveled to Central America to secure reptiles for the Columbus Zoo. He also enjoyed coin collecting, a hobby he enjoyed from his youth to well into his 70"s.

Bob was a member of the Dublin, Ohio Kiwanis Club, a delegate to the Building Trade Commission in Columbus, Ohio. He also was the building inspector for Powell, Ohio and taught marksmanship as an auxiliary police officer for the Columbus, Ohio police department. His last project was to build and operate the Powder Room Pistol Range in Powell, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude, of 66 years, 4 daughters, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James.

Friends may call Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 12:30 PM until time of Military Service at 1:00 PM in the Ohio Veterans Home Giffin Chapel, 3416 Columbus Ave. Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
