Doris B. White, 98, of Sandusky, OH., died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in the Erie County Care Facility, Huron Township, Ohio.
She was born January 4, 1914 in Northeast, Maryland, and came to Sandusky as a child, and has resided here the rest of her life. She loved playing the violin that she had learned as a youngster, RVing (locally and spending the winters in McAllen, TX., for 20 years, where she helped tutor children in reading). The love of sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking kept her busy as well as hiking, well into her 70's. Riding the rapids of the Grand Canyon in 1967 with her son was one of the many highlights of her life. Doris was employed as a waitress with the Plumbrook Country Club for many years. She also had worked in the cafeteria at Adams Jr. High and retired from the former Stonehouse Restaurant in Sandusky. She was also a volunteer with Erie Metro Parks. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sandusky.
She is survived by one son: Robert (Kathy) White, Jr. of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, one daughter: Sylvia (Alan) McGreevy of Chula Vista, CA., many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. White in 2002, to whom she was married for over 60 years, eight brothers and sisters.
Private services for the family were held in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky.
