Richard Allen Pheiffer

Richard Allen Pheiffer, 75, after fighting a valiant battle with cancer passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 19, 2022.

Richard was the son of Louis and Agnes Pheiffer, who lived the entirety of life in his beloved Monroeville (graduate 1965) and Norwalk areas.

He understood the merit, value, and artistry of hard work as he was a skilled mason. Richard began his career with Barman & Seitz Construction and then continued his trade with Wasiniak Construction in 1972 until his retirement in 2015 (43 years). However, this was never a true retirement as Richard could never give up a profession, he took immense pride in and continued to assist his brother-in-law at Adelman Construction until shortly before his passing.

Rich was also a proud military veteran as a member of the United States Army. He was a Military Police Officer who served from 1966-1968 in the Vietnam War during the Tet Offensive.

Rich was a perfect example of a man who truly gave of himself and never asked for anything in return. He leaves a legacy for others to emulate as a man dedicated to his family and community as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, volunteer and friend to all he crossed paths with.

He lived his life devoted to his strong Catholic faith and its teachings. A good and faithful servant of God, he was a parishioner of St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church and in prior years served as a Eucharistic Minister and usher at St. Joseph in Monroeville. Rich had an immense love for the outdoors as every free moment of daylight hour allowed would find him landscaping, walking in the woods, gardening and mowing any lawn he could find in need of a little "TLC". He also spent hours upon hours enjoying and passing on his love of reading and weather prediction forecasts. Time with family was his most treasured possession whether it was the Outer Banks beaches, Disney World Vacations, or simple evenings at home.

He was an avid never-failing supporter found in bleachers, auditoriums, and gyms of his daughter and later grandson's endeavors. Richard belonged to the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and was a life member of the VFW. He also served as the membership chairman of the Izaak Walton Conservation League.

Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn (Cramer), daughter, Nickie (Pat) Schwan, and grandson, Griffin Schwan all of Norwalk; sister, RuthAnn Sabiers (French) Leger of Santa Fe; sister-in-law, Paula Cramer and brother-in-law, Eric (Becky) Adelman of Norwalk; nephews, Derek Adelman of Norwalk, and Ben Sabiers of New York City, and niece, Jessica (Aaron) Naylor of Norwalk.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; 3 infant brothers, Gerald, Jon, and Stephen, and mother-in-law, Clara Adelman.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, from 3 pm to 8 pm at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main Street, Norwalk, OH 44857. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 11 am with Father Ron Schock presiding. The burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Memorial gifts in Richard's honor may be given to St. Alphonsus log cabin or cemetery maintenance fund, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville, Ohio 44847 or to the Norwalk Area Food Bank, 99 Whittlesey Avenue Norwalk, OH 44857.
