Roland J. Unckrich, Jr., 83, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Tues., Jan. 3, 2023.
He was born April 17, 1939 in Sandusky to the late Roland and Esther (Maus) Unckrich, Sr..
Roland graduated from Sandusky High School, class of 1957. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard who proudly served his country. He was employed as a Journeyman Millwright for General Motors for 33 years, where he was also on the fire brigade. He was a volunteer fireman for Perkins Township for several years. Roland was a member of Singara Grotto, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating and sailing, fishing, and he was extremely active with Perkins Athletics. In his younger years, he coached football under the late, great Coach Earl Bruce.
Roland is survived by his wife, Sonya, whom he married on June 17, 1961; sons, Scott (June) Unckrich, of Port Orange, FL, and Craig (Stephanie) Unckrich, of Alliance, OH; two grandchildren, Corey (Clare) and Michael Unckrich; two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Jacob Unckrich; sisters, Betty (Jerry) Weyer, and Jean (Allen) Puckrin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.
Friends may call on Tues., Jan. 10 from 10 A.M. until funeral services begin at 12 P.M. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Cremation will follow. The service will be live-streamed and recorded for those who cannot attend in person.
