Cynthia Jo Ann (McKinney) Sanders

Cynthia Jo Ann (McKinney) Sanders departed this life and went home to rest with the Lord on Monday, March 19, 2012, in the Cleveland Clinic.

She was born on July 3, 1952, in Sandusky, to the late James E. and Sallie McKinney. Cynthia graduated from Perkins High School in 1970, and married her high school sweetheart, American Sanders, in 1972 which resulted in the celebration of 40 years of marriage this past February.

Cynthia was employed and retired from the Ohio Veterans Home with over thirty years of service where she performed services as a nurse's assistant. She was known for her outstanding personality and her spirit of care, commitment and devotion to the patients she served.

Cynthia was a woman of great faith, an ordained minister and true philanthropist. She was the creator of DORCAS' CLOSET LIVES 2 GIVE, a 7-year-old non-profit organization where she was the founder and director. Minister Cynthia had over 110 clients and gave unconditionally to several other non-profit organizations throughout the community.

Minister Cynthia volunteered at the Home of Hope as a Biblical Instructor where she graciously touched the lives of so many people by extending AGAPE LOVE on an emotional and spiritual level with her understanding and encouragement for others. Cynthia also extended the same type of love physically by providing clothing accessories, food items, and other gifts for the needy. Minister Cynthia has been the sole funder of this vision and was blessed to announce the opening of a second store, "Dollarama Extravaganza."

She was a member of Emmanuel Temple Church under the pastorate of Bishop Rufus G. W. Sanders. She served on numerous committees and assisted with many programs over the years. Her accomplishment and achievements are numerous; yet she remained humble and can best be described by her family and friends as a laborer for the Lord. Her compassion and selfless love of others was evident in her thoughts, words, and deeds as she continued to inspire others through her courageous battle with terminal illness.

Despite her prognosis, she surpassed the doctor's expectations and continued her 2 Dorcas Closet Ministries. She received the Woman of Excellence Award in 2010, and in 2011, Minister Cynthia received an award of recognition from Cancer Services "GIRLS NIGHT OUT", where she was deemed Woman of the Year by over 1200 local business women.

Cynthia is survived by her husband of 40 years, American Sanders, Jr.;
brothers, James E. McKinney, Jr. and Harrison O. (Billie Jean) McKinney, Christopher (Gladys) McKinney, all of Sandusky, Howard (Patrice) McKinney, Elyria, Ohio, Robert Kidd of Nashville, TN., and John (Linda) Kidd, of Mansfield, OH; and sisters, Johnnie (Douglas) Page, of Oklahoma City, OK, Maxine Kidd, Sandusky, Carolyn Adkison and Mary (Sam) Smith, both of Mansfield, OH.

She was preceded in death by her Mothers, Mary Leon Kidd and Sallie Leon McKinney; her father, James McKinney Sr.; Grandparents Rev. Johnny and Mother Malissia Swope; and brother, David Kidd.

Friends may call on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 10 A.M. until time of funeral services at 11 A.M. in The Emmanuel Temple Church, 128 East Adams Street, where Bishop Rufus G.W. Sanders will officiate. Burial will be at Perkins Cemetery. Contributions may be sent to Emmanuel Temple Church.
