Marlene Louise Ackerman, 90, formerly of Monroeville, died Saturday, February 4, 2023, at home.
Born on March 24, 1932 in Olean New York, she moved to Monroeville while in high school and graduated from Monroeville High School. In 1974 Marlene went back to school to become an RN.
Marlene worked as an RN with Fisher-Titus Hospital and later for Parkview Nursing Home in Sandusky, where she retired. She enjoyed working in her garden where she grew strawberries. Marlene also cherished time spent at home with family and her beloved dogs.
Survivors include her children, Bob (Cathy) Ackerman, of Monroeville, Gene Ackerman, of Norwalk, Chris (Bonnie) Ackerman, of Monroeville, and Penny (John) McClaflin, of New London; 7 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Ackerman; her father, Melvin VanCuren Sr; her mother and step-father, Elizabeth (nee Bryant) and Paul Conners; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Ackerman; grandson, Nicholas Ackerman; and siblings, William Conners, Chuck VanCuren, Melvin VanCuren Jr, and Evie Stark.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, February 7, from 4-6 p.m. at Walker Eastman Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main St, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m., at St Mary's Catholic Church, 46 E. Main, Wakeman, Fr. Ron Brickner will officiate and burial will follow at Monroeville North Cemetery.
