On Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, God gained one of his special servants, Mrs. Mary Ann Wilson (Nuby), 68, of Sandusky, after a 3-year battle with cancer.
Mary was born in Sandusky on Feb. 21, 1954 to the late Thirkee Barron, Sr. and the late Anna Mae Barron.
Mary was a faithful member of Porters Memorial C.M.E. Church and a 1972 graduate of Sandusky High School. After graduating, Mary went on to marry her high school sweetheart in 1976, Roy Wilson, Jr. From this union Mary and Roy went on to have 3 children, Bret Wilson, Jevin Wilson, and Sharel Wilson. During this time of raising her family, Mary started her career at what was then called Providence Hospital as a housekeeper. Then, as Providence combined with Firelands Community Hospital, Mary's true calling started as she became a Godsend to her Stein Hospice family and patients. Mary provided a clean environment, encouraging words, and kindness to families during their time of grief. Her ability to nurture and go above and beyond for so many families, all while holding the most beautiful smile, never went unnoticed with 36 years of service.
As life went on the unexpected passing of her husband, Roy Wilson Jr., in 1998; and son, Jevin Wilson, in 1999; made Mary's faith in God stronger. In return, in 2002, God provided her a new blessing by the name of Orlando Nuby, who cared and nurtured her through sickness and in health. Her biggest blessing yet arrived in 2007: her only grandchild, Sianna Wilson, with whom she loved baking, shopping, and watching movies.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Sharel Wilson; husband, Orlando Nuby; granddaughter, Sianna Wilson; sister, Yvette (Luther) Henson, of Columbus, OH; brothers, Steve (Shasta) Brown, of Sandusky, Thirkee (Barb) Barron, Jr., of Columbus, OH; sisters-in-law, Erma (Elder) Stowers, Rose Lewis, and Sonya Nuby, all of Sandusky, Linda Powell, of Coldwater, MS; brothers-in-law, Marty Clay Wilson, Mike Nuby, and Mark Nuby; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wilson Jr.; sons, Jevin Wilson and Brett Wilson, in infancy; sisters, Laverne Barron and Melissa Norris; brother, William "Speedy" Nuby; niece, Vanessa Barron; mothers-in-law, Anna B. Wilson and Hattie Nuby; fathers-in-law, Roy Wilson, Sr. and Horrace Nuby.
Friends and family may come at 10 A.M. until the time of funeral services at 12 P.M. Noon on Monday, February 27, 2023 to Porters Memorial C.M.E. Church, 1722 Third St., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky is handling arrangements.
