Leo D. Carnicom, Jr, age 72 of Clyde, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Veterans Affairs Health System in Ann Arbor, MI. Leo was born July 1, 1950, in Fremont, OH, the son of the late Leo, Sr. and Betty (Peach) Carnicom.
Leo was an Army Vietnam War Veteran where he was stationed at Quang Tri and 2 other locations.
After Vietnam, Leo returned home and became active in the racing industry. He raced in the 6-cylinder sportsman division at the Fremont Speedway. His biggest win was winning the Feature at the Wauseon Speedway, with the 45x car owned by Gary Coonrod.
Leo had a highly successful career in the can making industry. He began his profession as a Maintainer and ended his career as a Plant Engineer. He assisted in starting new facilities in the United States and other countries.
Leo was an avid Mark Martin Nascar fan and loved to attend any Speedway that he could. He also enjoyed Golfing, where he was able to golf at several nice courses across the United States. Leo loved his family, country and dog Toby. There was nothing that he could not fix or repair. He especially loved working with engines. If you needed it rebuilt...he was the man to go to.
After officially retiring, Leo enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, attending his grandchildren's school & sporting events, mowing his neighbors' lawns, following the Ohio State Buckeyes, watching the Little League World Series and tinkering in his garage and yard.
Leo's presence was important to many and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Leo is survived by his wife, Ruby Sue (Killion) Carnicom, whom he married February 14, 1987, in Clyde; children: Monica Camarata of Clyde, Thomas Kudro, Jr, of Bellevue, Matthew (Jessica) Carnicom of Fayette, OH, Jill Bates of Fayette, OH, and Andrew (Angie) Carnicom of Charleston, SC; grandchildren: Drake, Tristen, Kaleb, Jacob, Keegan, AJ, Alison, Amber, Kirsten, Leah, Lindsey, Dominic and Bryana; great-grandchildren: Parker, Skylar, and Casen; and siblings: Judy Prickett of Arizona, David Prickett of Arizona, Ray (Becky) Prickett of Fremont, and Chris (Steve) Davidson of Old Fort.
