James E. Whyde

James E. Whyde, age 94, of Sandusky, died Thursday, March 29, 2012, in Stein Hospice Care Center following a brief illness.

He was born November 5, 1917 in Coshocton, OH. Jim retired from Farrell Cheek Steel Company, Sandusky, and worked for Armor Fertilizer of Sandusky and William C. Horn Co. of Bellevue. He was a member of Castalia Congregational UCC Church, and he enjoyed his family, golfing, hunting, fishing, and farming. He was a member of the Castalia Lions Club, and served on the Erie County Fair Board.

Jim is survived by his wife Doris (Altvater) Whyde; 1 daughter Nancy (Michael) McMaster of Huron; 2 sons David (Barbara) Whyde of Milan and Dan (Lois) Whyde of Sandusky; 2 sisters Alma Johnson of Coshocton and Ellen (John) Tatten of Coshocton; 2 sisters-in-law Norma Addy and Jean Altvater; 9 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren;special cousins Harold and Shirley Gahr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Estella (Addy) Whyde; 4 brothers Reece, George, Thomas and Donald Whyde; and 1 sister Florence Amore.

Friends may call from 5 - 8 PM Tuesday at Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington Street, Castalia, where services will be on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. The Castalia Lions Club will conduct services at 8:00 PM Tuesday. Pastor John Paputza will officiate. Burial will be in Venice Cemetery.
