Margaret Bruens-Deering

Margaret Bruens-Deering, age 97, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully Monday April 10 at Parkvue Health Care following a brief illness.

Margaret was born July 18, 1925 in Beitigheim, Germany to the late Carl and Elsa (Magdalena) Hoerrle.

The family settled in Cleveland where Margaret attended Lincoln High School. Her main interest was in Journalism as a member of the school newspaper. She attended Cleveland Fenn College (now Cleveland State). Her education was interrupted by World War II. During the war, she worked as a secretary at Crile Army Hospital. She married Harmon H. Bruens of Sandusky. They raised their 4 children in Perkins Township. Margaret was active in all phases of their sports, activities, and attended all of their events. Margaret also worked at Osterman's Jewelers.

Margaret was active in the fight against annexation, writing articles and making speeches on local radio. Widowed for a number of years, she married Fred H. Deering, who was a long-time friend of the Bruens Family. She participated in his political campaign from School Board Member to Ohio State Representative. She volunteered for the Erie County Senior Center delivering Meals on Wheels. Margaret was a member of the Sawmill Creek Women's Golf Club for 38 years, earning Club Champion during that time. She also sponsored the Cindy Grimm-Susan Komen Golf Tournament in honor of her daughter for the past 10 years. Margaret was a member of St. Johns Church of Christ in Milan, Ohio.

 

Margaret is survived by her children, John (Kay) Bruens and Patricia (Terry) Meese; step-children, Daryl (Joyce) Deering, Diane (Karl) Nolte, Steve (Sandra) Deering and Brian (Julie) Deering; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bruens; grandchildren, Carrie (Chris) Lewis, Anthony Grimm, Stephanie Meese, Michael (Dr. Beth Pichter) Meese, John K. Bruens, Dr. Courtney Bruens, and Alicia (Eric) Hemoipa; step-grandchildren, Ryan (Anne) Deering, Chris (Melanie) Deering, Brad (Lindsley) Deering, and Keith (Ashley) Deering; and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her first husband, Harmon Bruens; second husband, Fred Deering; daughter, Cindy Bruens-Grimm; son, Ronald Bruens; brother, Henry Herman Hoerrle; and great-grandson, Skyler Deering.

Private family services will take place at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, Sandusky with Pastor Wendy Schindler-Chasney officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron.
