Sallie H. (Halcomb) Matheney, age 96, of Castalia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born July 4, 1926, in Cornettsville, KY, daughter of French and Zola (Riddle) Halcomb.
She moved to Lorain, where she met her beloved husband Encil L. Matheney Sr., whom she married on September 22, 1955, in Cornettsville. They moved to Sandusky, and she worked for American Crayon until she became widowed at age 36. Sallie then moved to Castalia, to raise her children Lois and Encil, while working numerous jobs over the years including Cameo Pizza, Bar 101, and General Motors until retirement. Sallie loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch, her daily conversations with her sister Marie, gardening, going "Down Home", traveling to casinos and playing Bingo with her late sister Ruby. Sallie left many memories and her funny little sayings along the way with friends, co-workers and especially family. Sallie was deeply loved and will be missed.
She is survived by her daughter Lois (Randy) Whitman, Castalia; son Encil (Carol) L. Matheney Jr., Vickery; sisters Marie Halcomb and Alma Watts, Cornettsville, KY; granddaughter and caregiver Angie (Wade) Adkins, Bellevue; granddaughters Hannah (Darrin) Barlow and Grace Matheney, both of Vickery; great grandson Steve "Stevie" Johnson, Bellevue; great granddaughters Sydney (Rhett Aucoin) Johnson, FL, Payton and Callie Adkins, IL; great-great granddaughters Zamiyah Missler, and Cecilia Aucoin; and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Sallie was preceded in death by her husband Encil Matheney; parents; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins; eight siblings Carl, Fred, Hassel, Harvey, Orvel, Ruby, Ruth, and Hettie (Dude).
