Mary J. Altvater, 84, of Sandusky passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012 at her residence.
She was born December 13, 1927 in Navarre, Ohio the daughter of George W. and Helen Grace (Geopfert) Trook.
Mary enjoyed music and singing in the Melody Makers Choir and enjoyed singing in the choir at the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene. She looked forward to her visits to the Erie County Senior Center.
She is survived by her children: Mary (Leonard) Kaufman of Sandusky, Ann (Rick Hemmer) Hammons of Sandusky, Carl (Donna) Altvater of Loudon, TN and Debra (Rolland) Kelley of Burleson, TN; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great grandchildren; one sister: Lois Sprowl of Tampa, FL, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Altvater, whom she married on June 9, 1951, and one brother: William Trook.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, 617 Milan Road, Sandusky, Ohio 44870. The Rev. David P. Flack will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
