Mary Lou Ashton, 77, of Sandusky, died Friday, April 6, 2012 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky following a brief illness.
She was born August 9, 1934 in Greenwich, Ohio and was a 1952 graduate of Greenwich High School. Mary Lou taught piano lessons at the former Lombardy Music between 1964 -1974, helped her husband at the Erie County Detention Home, helping in the kitchen from 1977 to 1987, cooked at the St. Mary's Church in the 1980's, and retired as a secretary from Dr. James Sauers office. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Sandusky, where she played the piano, Daughters of the American Revolution, and The Red Hat Society. Her hobbies included cooking, playing the piano and horseback riding.
She is survived by two sons: John (Corinne Cole) Ashton of Wildwood, Missouri, Jim (Donna) Ashton of Sandusky, three grandchildren: Johathan, Orejona and Colin, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Ashton in 2003, whom she was married to for 50 years, one son: Joseph "Joe" Ashton in 1971, her parents: Harry & Gladys (Rosenberger) Weimer.
Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 PM Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 13, in the First Presbyterian Church, 265 Jackson Street, Sandusky. The Rev. Dr. Robert R. Bottoms will officiate. Mary Lou and Robert Ashton will be laid to rest together in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Greenwich, Ohio.
