Ronald M. McCarthy, 89 of Milan, passed away early Monday morning at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 7, 1934 in Sandusky, the son of the late Leo and Laura Irene (Sterbeck) McCarthy.
Ron was a 1952 graduate of Sandusky High School and served in the US Air Force for four years. Ronald retired from the Sandusky Ford plant in 2000 following over 30 years of service as an inspector. He was a member of the UAW Local 1216, AMVETS Post #17 and the American Legion Post 83. Ron enjoyed Lionel trains, his Ohio sports teams and spending time with his family and friends.
Ron is survived by his wife Karen M. McCarthy (Boos) whom he married on Nov. 18, 1961, two daughters Kelly McCarthy of Norwalk, OH, and Shannon (Richard) Nevels of Indiana, one son Shawn (Elizabeth) McCarthy of Washington DC; six grandchildren Benjamin, Lydia, Elizabeth and Anna Nevels, and Fiona & Finn McCarthy; one sister Donna (Roger) Hudson of Douglasville, Georgia and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Friends may call on Monday May 1, 2023 from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 12 noon in the Groff Funeral Home and Crematory 1607 E. Perkins Ave. in Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Ron's son-in-law, Richard Nevels will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron, Ohio.
Ron was proud to have served his country, and his service continued throughout his life in his benevolence towards others. He cared deeply for his family and friends, and looked forward to visits from them.
