John West, 86, residing in Sandusky, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023, at home.
John was born on August 7, 1936, in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Lewis and Ruth (Decker) West.
John was a graduate of Kent State University. He was employed with Chrysler Corporation and retired from National Latex in Ashland as a Chemist after many years of service.
John was a member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ where he served on church council for six years and was a church Deacon and a member of the Altar Guild. He enjoyed gardening, repairing things around the house and church, his many cats and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Ruth Riley West, whom he married on September 1, 1962. He is also survived by his daughter, Diane (Walt) Foreman of Monroeville, Ohio; son, Jeffrey (Stella) West of Eaton, Ohio; brother, Lewis West, Jr. of California; two grandchildren Tyler and Erin Foreman; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by sister, Jane Baker.
Friends may call on Thursday, May 25 from 2 p.m. until time of memorial service at 3 p.m. at St. Stephens United Church of Christ, 905 East Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, with Rev. Jerald Fenske presiding. Burial will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in John's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678; Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior Street, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to St. Stephens United Church of Christ, 905 East Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870.
