Minister Kevin Dean Fuqua, 56, Sandusky, took the final steps of his earthly journey and went home to be with his heavenly father, Jesus Christ, on Monday, September 27, 2010 in Stein Hospice Care Center.
He was born on January 28, 1954 to Lawrence Albert Fuqua, Sr. and Evelyn Jean (Crump) Fuqua, and was one of six children. Kevin attended Sandusky City Schools, graduating from Sandusky High School in 1972. Upon graduation, he attended The Ohio State University for a short time, but decided to forego college and chose to serve his country with the U.S. Army, from which he was honorable discharged. He attended and received degrees from various colleges and universities including: Ashland Theological Seminary, a Master's in Pastoral Counseling; Bowling Green State University, a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts and an Associate's Degree in Human Services; and Ohio Business College, an Associate's Degree in Business Administration and Real Estate. Kevin was baptized at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was a lifelong member and later became an Associate Minister. He served faithfully under Pastor Curtis A. Brown, and then, Pastor Clayton E. Howard. His passion was preaching the Word and bringing God's children back home. Kevin's accomplishments included the following; member of the Gideon's; founded the Black History Leadership Dinner, the New Spirit Drugs and Alcohol Prevention Program, and the Junior NBA. He was also a Student Specialist Mentor; role model for Young World Ministries; and a volunteer for Crossroads VOA, the Senior Citizens Building, Erie County Jail, The Center for Cultural Awareness, and Bayshore Counseling; and served in numerous capacities with the NOBDA.
Kevin will be sadly missed by his parents; siblings, Jeanne (Cleveland D.) Palmer, Lawrence A. (Allean) Fuqua, Jr., Brett (Mary) Fuqua, Sr, all of Sandusky, Derrell Fuqua and Lori (Kevin) Simmons, both of Dayton, OH; two sons, Christopher Pool and LaDonte Grant, both of Sandusky; one loving and devoted daughter, Jeannine Fuqua, Salisbury, NC; twelve grandchildren; special friends, Birdia Edmon, Brenda Jones, and Karen Churchwell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
Friends may call on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 11 A.M. until time of funeral services at 1 P.M. in Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce St., Sandusky. Rev. Clayton E. Howard will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Erie Co., 505 E.
