Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Buckner, 92 of Bellevue, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, June 15, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 20, 1931 in Double Springs, Alabama, to Wiley and Cora (Aderholt) Bryant. Raised on farms in Alabama and Florida, Mary always knew the value of hard work and helping others. She moved to Bellevue in 1952 for better job opportunities. She began working at General Electric followed by a full career at New Departure. She was a retired member of the United Auto Workers. After retiring, Mary was a caregiver to the Brinster family of Bellevue. The exceptional care she provided quickly made her a beloved family member to the elderly Brinster siblings. Always nurturing others, this talent extended to plants as well with Mary being a skilled gardener.
Mary will most be remembered as a woman of deep faith and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an active member of the Little Bethlehem United Baptist Church of Bellevue, Ohio. She loved spending time with her family and attended many events for her grandchildren. She effortlessly kept track of her family's and friends' birthdays and milestones, always sending heartfelt cards, and enjoying any chance to celebrate. Mary loved having company at her home, and every visitor left with cherished memories.
She will lovingly be remembered by her children, Raynard (Diane) Buckner Jr., Kevin (Jill) Buckner, Carol Buckner, Gary (Montie) Buckner, and daughter-in-law Sue Short, all of Bellevue, and stepdaughters Lynda (Orbie) Pounders of Spruce Pine, Alabama, and Becky (Ricky) Otto of Danbury, Texas. Her memory will also be cherished by her 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild with another on the way in addition to many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raynard Buckner Sr., her son, Dewayne Short, and granddaughter, Joann Barkfelt. She was also the last surviving sibling from a large family with 7 siblings and 9 half-siblings.
Friends will be received on Monday, June 19, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m and Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 10 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11 a.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. The service will be officiated by Pastor Roy Smith. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
