Guy P. Smith

Guy P. Smith, 81, of Bellevue, died Monday, June 26, 2023 at his home.

He was born September 9, 1941 in Exeter, Virginia to Britt & Reba Smith, but lived his childhood in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.

He moved to Bellevue, Ohio at the age of 12 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1960. He served our country for three years in Mannheim, Germany.

He married the love of his life, Charlene Camp, on October 24, 1964 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Norwalk, Ohio. They lived their married life in Bellevue. Guy began his career at Norfolk-Western Railroad in 1965, retiring as a Yardmaster in 1991. In 1995, he started as a gasoline-tanker truck driver for Beck Supplier, Inc., and retired from his second career in 2003.

Guy loved to travel the world and enjoyed his adventures on his boat in Lake Erie with his family and friends. He loved to fish and hunt, finding joy in his hobbies of gold panning, gemology, gambling, and his motorcycle rides with his sweetheart, Char. He was a member of A.A. for 32 years, attending his home group at St. John's Lutheran Church. He served as a volunteer at the Intergroup and was a sponsor to many.

Guy is leaving behind the family who will always love him dearly: his wife of almost 59 years, Charlene Smith; daughters: Alicia Smith Steward and Melissa Smith (Randy Rohr); grandchildren: Sarah Wicker, Christopher (Erin) Ewing; Julia Walters (to marry Jesse Alejandro, August 26, 2023); Melanie (Evan) Wilson; great-grandchildren: Chase Wicker; Sofia Ewing; Catriana Ewing; Emma Alejandro; Jerrick Alejandro; Luca Reffner; Elijah Wilson; and born 6/26/23, Alarik Guy Floyde Wilson (the same day his great-grandfather, Guy, passed). We are sure Guy kissed and held him on the way as their souls passed.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.

No funeral services will be held at this time. Auxter Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1105 Castalia St, Bellevue is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
