Harold A. "Shorty" Wilhelm, of Monroeville died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 in the Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk following a brief illness.
He was born February 16, 1926 in Monroeville and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, serving in the Philippines. Shorty was employed as a two term Peru Township Trustee, maintenance man for the former Home Savings & Loan, custodian at the EHOVE Career Center and St. Joseph Elementary School, worked construction at Burkett Construction, was a bartender at Lee's Grill and Hillary's Bar. He also had worked at Howard Leis Furniture and was a farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, St. John Newman Chapter #1117, American Legion Post 547 and the Bronson Conservation League. His hobbies included gardening, playing cards and making wine.
He is survived by his six children: Harold W. Wilhelm, Anna Marie (Ken) Bischoff, Donna (Tom) Scheid, Ed (Vickie) Wilhelm, Marilyn (Brian) Watt, all of Monroeville, Barb (Mike) Brown of Bellevue, 17 grandchildren, one great grandson and one more on the way, two brothers: Leonard "Pete" (Ruth) Wilhelm and Norbert (Gerry) Wilhelm, both of Monroeville, one sister-in-law: Theresa Wilhelm of Norwalk, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna C. Wilhelm in 2008, one daughter: Linda Wilhelm, one grandson: Mark Wilhelm, one daughter-in-law: Mary T. Wilhelm, his parents: Walter & Matilda (Meyers) Wilhelm and one brother: Arnold Wilhelm.
Friends may call from 4:00-9:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 5, 2012 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel Street, Monroeville. The Rev. William Pifher will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.
